Greenbelt farming takes place in a suburban setting, and the proximity to the city brings opportunities and challenges. Will your farm benefit from the local or regional market? How will your farm business activities fit and integrate with Canada’s Capital Region? This form is the basis for the selection of proponents applying for an agricultural lease. The objective is to contribute to the successful development of agriculture and farm businesses in the Greenbelt. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate proof of financial means and consent to a verification of their credit rating.

Ottawa (ON), February 7, 2013 — The interactive installation Work No. 202: Half the Air in a Given Space by British Turner-prize winning artist Martin Creed has been added to the program for Winterlude at the National Gallery of Canada (NGC). Other activities include the contemporary Canadian art exhibition Builders: Canadian Biennial 2012, on display until February 18, and the stunning video installation A Journey That Wasn’t by French artist Pierre Huyghe. Visitors can also explore the artworks in the Gallery’s collection with the self-guided tour Not Just Another Winter Tour, or take part in family-friendly activities at the Artissimo kiosk. To mark Ontario Family Day, the Gallery will be open on Monday, February 18, and will be offering a discount on family admission and audioguide rentals. Ottawa, Ontario, December 11, 2012 − This February Avant-Garde Bar is joining tremendous efforts with Council For The Arts in Ottawa and Downtown Rideau BIA in order to bring into the midst of Ottawa's freezing winter a warm-hearted artistic exhibition by the handicapped orphans of Ukranian town Tsuryupinsk. This exhibit is going to feature the resistance of a child's inner world even despite the harshest surrounding realities. The day of the reception, February 01, is going to feature performances of dance troupes Svitanok and Peekaboo, a silent action and some hors d'oeuvre at Council for the Arts in Ottawa, and an interview with the young artists directly from Ukraine to be rounded off by a well-known rock-folk band Ukrainia at Avant-Garde Bar.

Add the seafood and sauté quickly. Flame with the cognac and deglaze with the white wine.
Reduce the white wine and add the diced tomatoes, cream and fish velouté sauce. Bring to a

Horizon 2067 updates the Plan for Canada’s Capital, which was published in 1999. This plan establishes federal government policy for planning and the physical development of the Capital over the next 50 years. In the fall of 2011, the National Capital Commission (NCC) invited Canadians from all regions of the country to share with us their ideas on creating a one‐of‐a‐kind capital.
The second phase of this engagement, namely a series of regional conversations, included workshops and online consultations. The purpose of this phase was to share, in broad terms, some of the feedback that the NCC had received during the fall and to solicit ideas and comments from people living in Canada’s Capital Region regarding the vision and strategies put forth in the Horizon 2067 plan.

Planning for the Future of Our Capital
At the dawn of the 21st century, Canada’s Capital needs a visionary and concrete action plan to meet the challenges ahead and to continue building a capital that vividly expresses the values and hopes of Canadians. With this mission in mind, the National Capital Commission (NCC) embarked on a unique and ambitious public consultation exercise in the fall of 2011. The consultation aimed to reach as many Canadians as possible, and gather their thoughts, ideas and aspirations for the future of Canada’s Capital. As part of the review of the Plan for Canada’s Capital, the NCC’s lead planning document, the National Engagement Strategy was developed to involve and engage the Canadian public from one end of the country to the other. The breadth and depth of the response exceeded expectations, and confirmed that Canadians care about their capital and want to have a say in its future. At the heart of this journey was a desire to connect directly with Canadians on a meaningful level and bring forward, through the plan, a clear reflection of their dreams for the future of their capital.

The National Capital Commission (NCC), in partnership with the Department of Canadian
Heritage (PCH), is inviting professional artists to submit their qualifications and examples
of prior work as part of the first stage of a two-phase competition for a national War of 1812
Monument in Canada’s Capital, Ottawa.
The War of 1812 was a seminal event in the making of our great country. Its 200th anniversary
(2012 - 2014) is being celebrated with commemorative events across Canada including the
creation of a national monument in Canada’s Capital. PHC wishes to unveil this new monument
towards the conclusion of these celebrations in October 2014. The NCC is managing the
project on behalf of PCH.
This national monument will recognize the courage and bravery of those who served during
the War of 1812 and successfully defended their land in the fight for Canada.

Financial Results
The National Capital Commission (NCC) recorded an increase of $3.5 million (16 percent) in revenues during
the first nine months of 2011–2012, compared with the same period last year. This increase stems mainly from
an amendment to the payment schedule for the contribution of Canadian Heritage to Canada Day celebrations
($1.2 million), in order to better align cash inflows with expenditures related to the event, as well as from higher
recoveries related to planning studies ($0.7 million). A settlement ($0.5 million), an increase in rental operations
revenues ($0.5 million) and in interest revenues resulting from higher interest rates ($0.4 million) also
contributed to the positive variance.

Ombudsman services were first introduced in April 2009 for members of the public seeking independent recourse to resolve their complaints relating to NCC activities. In 2012 the Ombudsman, a part-time independent contractor, worked approximately one day a week. The office of the Ombudsman also employed one full time administrative person. The annual budget for the office is approved by the NCC Board of Directors. All operations and services are handled directly by the office of the NCC Ombudsman, except for general corporate services.

The screening includes films he made during his 34-year tenure at the National Film Board of Canada and his newer independent video productions. Hébert invites us to think about our relationship with images, and by extension, how we interact with the world around us. The filmmaker will be present at the screening to introduce and discuss his work, and will give a special live performance of his piece Tropismes the following evening, accompanied by clarinetist Lori Freedman.

The celebrations organized in honour of Canada’s 145th birthday take place at three official sites: Parliament Hill and Major's Hill Park in Ottawa, and Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau, along with several partner sites. Residents and visitors are invited to take part in a multitude of free daytime family activities and evening concerts, culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display in the heart of the Capital Region at approximately 10 pm.

The contribution of volunteers is very important, as it supports all of the preparations, including logistics, for this major activity. Volunteers help to ensure that the festivities go as planned. They also ensure that the region’s residents and visitors receive a warm welcome and enjoy the day, direct them to the many free activities, and are on hand when guests raise their flags to show their pride in being Canadian.

MyCapital is an NCC pilot project which ran from July 11 to October 11, 2011 on the Plaza Bridge Terrace. The objective of the project was to create a vibrant, urban public space in the downtown core in an area that is currently underutilized. The site was equipped with twenty red Muskoka chairs, two white shade sails and free Wi-Fi access.
An intercept survey was conducted by Harris/Decima consultants among 285 visitors to the myCapital site from August 12 to October 11. Interviews consisting of 10 questions were conducted during peak pedestrian traffic times, on a rotating schedule of week days and weekend days.
The objectives of the survey were to:
Gather feedback site visitors to help determine if the project will continue next year or expand to an additional site with different elements
Determine sources of information about the site, length of stay, reasons for visiting and overall satisfaction levels with the site;
Determine whether or not site visitors benefited from the Wi-Fi accessibility and if it was important to them to have such access; and
Develop a demographic profile of site visitors (age, city of residence and gender).
That being said, Harris/Decima were able to successfully meet the objectives of the survey. The following report is a summary of the survey findings.

the first quarter of 2011-2012 compared to the same period last year. This increase stems mainly from an
amendment to the payment schedule for the contribution of the Department of Canadian Heritage to Canada

The portraits on display depict some of the English-and French-speaking militia and colonists, British officers and First Nations allies who worked together to successfully block American invasions over the course of more than two years. Their united front helped lay the foundation for the Canada we know today.

Today the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) announced its Winterlude 2012 programming. Along with its current exhibitions, the NGC invites the public to see the Canadian première of The Clock, a masterful work by artist Christian Marclay. This ode to time and the cinema is made up of thousands of fragments from a wide range of films to form a 24-hour, single-channel, real-time video loop. Gallery visitors will also have the opportunity to hear Canadian artist Janet Cardiff's famous and much-loved work Forty-Part Motet. Since the approval of the Gatineau Park Master Plan (2005), the NCC has increased its focus on the conservation of Park ecosystems. The Eardley Escarpment is the most important valued natural ecosystem in the Park and is considered a Priority I conservation zone (DDM 2007). One objective of the Gatineau Park Ecosystem Conservation Plan (DDM 2010) is to determine a policy regarding rock climbing activities in Gatineau Park based on Master Plan guidelines. The Conservation Plan was approved in 2010 following numerous workshops with the various stakeholders. The Plan recommends keeping two or three rock faces open for climbing. The purpose of this recommendation is to minimize the impact of this sport to protect the exceptional natural environment of the Escarpment, Gatineau Park’s richest and most fragile ecosystem, and its species at risk.

The NCC revamped its second language training program to better meet the needs of its employees. To
that end, the Official Languages (OL) coordinator organized focus groups and prepared a short
questionnaire. The new program will now offer each student a personalized training plan, a reference
manual and periodic progress evaluations. The NCC also organized several awareness activities as part of
the 40th
anniversary of the Official Languages Act (OLA). These activities included publishing banners and
messages on its Intranet and Internet sites, organizing an event for its employees as well as covering this
anniversary during the Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) monthly video message to employees.

Research purpose and objectives
Since 2000, the National Capital Commission (NCC) has regularly commissioned public opinion research to gauge awareness and attitudes across a number of key issues pertaining to its role in the National Capital Region (NCR).
This study is the ninth consecutive annual public awareness survey conducted by the National Capital Commission (NCC). The purpose of the study is to measure current public opinion across the National Capital Region (NCR) to identify:
• Residents' awareness of the NCC and its mandate;
• Public attitudes about the Commission's responsibilities and performance to date;
• How opinions have changed over the past year, based on comparisons with the previous research;
• How awareness and attitudes differ across relevant segments of the community (e.g., by province, demographic characteristics); and
• Residents’ awareness of and interest in the new openness initiatives.

In 2005, The City of Gatineau and the National Capital Commission (NCC) jointly undertook the revision of the Des Draveurs Parkway Concept for the area encompassing Parc de la Baie and Jacques-Cartier Street east of the Lady-Aberdeen Bridge, between the bridge and Saint-Louis Street. This study, conducted by Del Degan, Massé et Associés Consultants, recommends a redevelopment of the Jacques-Cartier streetscape and improvements to the adjacent shoreline that will benefit the environment and enhance public access to the water. This will be advantageous to local residents and visitors alike.

White-tailed deer live an average of six to eight years in a natural environment. The male weights between 85 to 170 kg, and the female between 57 and 113 kg. From the tip of its nose to its tail, this deer measures a little less than two metres ans its height at the shoulder is around one metre. Its coat is reddish-brown in summer and greyish-beige during winter.
