Preparations for Canada Day are underway at Major’s Hill and Jacques-Cartier parks and Nepean Point

Schedule of closure of public spaces

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is busy with preparations for the Capital Region’s famous Canada Day in the Capital celebrations. Over the next few days, the NCC events team will be putting the finishing touches on Canada Day’s official sites, including Parliament Hill, Major’s Hill Park, and Jacques-Cartier Park, as well as on Nepean Point. As a result, these public spaces will be closed to the public.

Parliament Hill

Work has begun on Parliament Hill for the numerous ceremonies and performances. Workers are completing the installation of the main stage for the noon and evening shows. Some areas of Parliament Hill are closed to the public during this time.

Major’s Hill and Jacques-Cartier parks

Preparation work as begun at Major’s Hill Park, in Ottawa, and at Jacques-Cartier Park, in Gatineau. In the coming days, tents, trailers and stages will be installed, including information kiosks, lost children and first aid service areas.

  • Major's Hill Park will be closed as of today, June 22, until July 1 at 10 am.
  • Jacques-Cartier Park will be closed from June 25 until June 30 at 6 pm.

Lower terrace of the Farimont Château Laurier

The lower terrace located beside the Fairmont Château Laurier will only be accessible from Wellington Street and will be closed to the public as of 6 pm on June 30. It will reopen on July 2 at 9 am.

Nepean Point: launch site for the President’s Choice® Canada Day Fireworks

Crews will start setting up the President’s Choice® Canada Day Fireworks display at the Astrolabe (Nepean Point), in Ottawa, on June 27. The site will be closed to the public until after Canada Day.
