Tulips in the Capital

In May, across the region, close to a million tulips in more than 50 varieties bring the NCC’s flower beds to life. The tulip displays provide a spectacular backdrop for the world’s largest tulip festival — the Canadian Tulip Festival.

Tulip Legacy Exhibit

Discover the fascinating details of the events that led to the "Gift of Tulips" and of the lasting friendship between Canada and the Netherlands through the Tulip Legacy exhibit. Find out about the Dutch Royal Family’s refuge in Canada during World War II and the contribution of Canadian troops in the liberation of the Netherlands.

In gratitude, the Dutch people sent 100,000 tulip bulbs to Canada and another 20,000 added by Queen Juliana the Dutch royal family. In a gesture of ongoing gratitude and friendship, the Netherlands continues to send 20,000 bulbs to Canada each year. The Tulip Legacy exhibit is held at Commissioners Park (on the banks of Dows Lake).
