Outdoor exhibit will feature Canadian “light art” during Winterlude 2013

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is seeking works by Canadian professional artists for IllumiNation, an outdoor group exhibit to be held in Confederation Park and at Marion Dewar Plaza, in the heart of Canada’s Capital Region, during Winterlude 2013.

The 35th edition Winterlude will take place from February 1 to 18, 2013. Every year, the Capital’s winter celebration welcomes an average of 600,000 people, making it an exceptional place for public presentation of works by Canadian artists.

Through IllumiNation, the NCC wants to enrich the quality and character of the visitor experience with public art that:

  • Demonstrates creativity in the use of light as a medium;
  • Demonstrates innovation and artistic excellence;
  • Can be enjoyed both night and day;
  • Can be enjoyed by a family audience;
  • Can be installed outdoors and is able to withstand winter weather;
  • Is created by a Canadian professional artist.

Only exterior light artworks will be considered. Both existing works and new creations will be considered. Individual and group proposals are welcome. Artists will be provided with a $6,000 exhibit fee.

*** The deadline for proposals to be received is October 15, 2012. ***

Email artpublicart@ncc-ccn.ca or call 613-239-5553 for more information on the Illumination exhibit and to receive artwork guidelines.
