The review of the 1996 Greenbelt Master Plan reveals that the Greenbelt is still relevant and continues to definitely pay dividends by safeguarding forests, fields, streams and wetlands and species, and by filtering our air, cleansing our water, and moving towards sustainable agriculture. The review recommends some changes to the concept to achieve the new Greenbelt 2067 Vision, as follows -

The NCC is saddened to hear of Jean Pigott’s passing.

Appointed as Chair of the National Capital Commission in 1985, Mrs. Pigott embodied the mandate of the NCC: to create a Capital for all Canadians. She worked tirelessly during her mandate (1985–1992) and throughout her life to ensure Canadians considered the Capital their second home. Mrs. Pigott’s passion was the Capital.

The Monument will help ensure the memory of the Holocaust is never lost. The hope is that by teaching current and future generations of Canadians the roots and causes of this atrocity, future acts of genocide will be prevented.
