Reducing Waste Through Green Demolitions

The National Capital Commission (NCC) undertakes green demolitions when properties in Gatineau Park and the Greenbelt are returned to their natural state with the aim of helping to conserve and enhance these two important features of Canada’s Capital Region. In the 1960s and 1970s, the NCC acquired private properties to create the Greenbelt and Gatineau Park that we know today. Through the years, the NCC has maintained its objective to restore the lands to their natural state in the Greenbelt and in Gatineau Park when buildings have reached the end of their lifecycle.

Advisory: Carlsbad Springs Greenbelt consultation meeting postponed due to inclement weather

Due to the inclement weather, the National Capital Commission (NCC) has postponed tonight’s public meeting in Carlsbad Springs, to explain the proposed potential land additions to the Greenbelt. The meeting was to be held at the local community Centre located on Eight Line Road beginning at 7 p.m.

The NCC has rescheduled the meeting to Tuesday, February 5, 2013, from 7 to 9 pm at the Carlsbad Springs Community Centre, 6020, Eight Line Road, Ottawa.

The Evaluation Committee (EC) will conduct the evaluation of the three corridors in the New Year. The committee is made up of technical experts with relevant and broad knowledge of the corridors to ensure there is a balanced and informed evaluation.

ACS and NCC Release National Survey

In five years, Canadians will commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Confederation. Today, the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) released survey data to demonstrate how Canadians wish to mark the occasion. Conducted by the firm Leger Marketing for ACS in collaboration with the National Capital Commission (NCC), the survey reveals that 78% of Canadians wish to focus on what Canadians have accomplished in the 150 years since Confederation.

National Holocaust Monument

Canada’s National Holocaust Monument, to be located in the National Capital Region, will bring Canadians of all faiths together to remember the millions of innocent men, women and children counted among its victims. The Monument will help ensure the memory of the Holocaust is never lost. The hope is that by teaching current and future generations of Canadians the roots and causes of this atrocity, future acts of genocide will be prevented.
