“Perspectives: Scenes of Canada’s Capitals” arrives in Edmonton

Photo exhibit features a view of the North Saskatchewan River to Canadians

Canada’s Capital Region — The National Capital Commission (NCC) and Canadian Geographic are proud to announce that the photo exhibit “Perspectives: Scenes of Canada’s Capitals” is touring the country and will be featured in different capital cities of Canada throughout 2011-2012. 

The exhibit will make a stop in Edmonton, Alberta, from January 9 to February 3, 2012 at Edmonton City Hall and will feature two winning artists from Edmonton – Jordan Camponi, Grand Prize Winner and Julia Coombs.

“The long-awaited thaw of the North Saskatchewan River means that summer is on its way and we will soon get to enjoy the art, music and theatre festivals that are the best parts of living in Edmonton,” said the grand prize winner, Jordan Camponi, when describing his photo.

“As I was photographing the doors reflected in the pool, a woman walked down the stairs,” says Julia Coombs, Edmonton, Alberta winner. “It wasn’t until I got home that I discovered how cool the photo was. I got a great mark for it too.” Julia was photographing Alberta’s legislature for a course at Grant MacEwan University.

Over 2,000 Canadians from across the country submitted photographs for this national competition organized by the NCC and Canadian Geographic. The winning photographs illustrate points of interest and features that reflect the uniqueness of each of the capital cities of Canada — something that symbolizes their role in our country, our provinces and territories.

Thousands of visitors to Canada’s Capital Region have seen the photo exhibit during the 2011 summer season.

  • Derrick Hefford, St. John’s (Newfoundland)

  • Katrina Strickland, Victoria (British Columbia) (winner: children category)
