Closure of a Section of Gamelin Street in Gatineau
The section of Gamelin Street, between the Gatineau Parkway and des Fées Street, will be closed permanently as of Monday, October 29, 2012.
The construction of a recreational pathway inside the section’s right of way will ensure safe access for leisure and active transportation while joining Wright-Parc de la montagne and du Plateau neighbourhoods to Gatineau Park.
Reinstated to Gatineau Park
The closure of this section of Gamelin Street aims to secure the sustainability of ecosystems and natural habitats in the Lac des Fées sector of Gatineau Park.
The closure of this section has been planned for decades. It has been the subject of many discussions, studies and public consultations since the early 1980s. It is mentioned in the 1990 and in the 2005 Gatineau Park Master Plan.
Notice to motorists
Illuminated traffic signage will be in place on Tuesday, October 16 to inform the public and motorists of the permanent closure of the section.
Concrete barriers will be erected on October 29 to permanently close this section of Gamelin Street. Work to reinstate the section in Gatineau Park will begin following the closure.
The closure of this section of Gamelin Street will require changes to traffic patterns. The National Capital Commission (NCC) requests that motorists, effective October 29, use Alexandre-Taché, Saint-Raymond and des Allumettières boulevards.
Public wishing to contact the NCC can do so at 613-239-5000, 1-800-465-1867, 613-239-5090 (TTY) or 1-866-661-3530 (toll-free TTY).
