Summer edition of youth photo exhibit showcases young Canadians’ art in unexpected spaces

The National Capital Commission (NCC) has launched the summer version of Eco Art on the Plaza Bridge Terrace. In a unique twist, this outdoor Capital space will be carpeted with the art of young Canadians, adding to the feeling of an outdoor living room.

Until October 2012, Eco Art will feature 40 stunning photos by Canadian youth (age 14 to 24) on the theme of the environment. The photos were selected through a national contest and were enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of skaters at Dows Gallery on the Rideau Canal Skateway this past winter. These popular pieces will now be exhibited in an original design that combines the 40 environment-themed photos into a massive outdoor carpet, welcome mat and stair runner.

The Eco Art photos will enhance a shaded sitting area with inviting red Muskoka chairs that overlook the Rideau Canal and have views of the National War Memorial.

It transforms the Plaza Bridge Terrace into a unique exhibit space, and highlights the NCC’s interest in engaging Canadians of all ages, and enriching the quality and character of the Capital experience.

The next Eco Art photography contest for youth will launch in January, 2013.
