Balancing
Balancing is normally located near the Rideau Canal and the National Arts Centre, in downtown Ottawa. The piece is currently undergoing major restoration work.
This sculpture is probably the most popular one in Ottawa. A lively work of art, it brings out feelings of good cheer. Made from laminated mahogany from the Philippines, it represents typical residents of the Capital, including a civil servant who seems to be somewhat taken aback.
Balancing was created in 1981 by New Brunswick artist John Hooper.
