The prize winners will be announced in January, at the opening of Dows Gallery, an outdoor space in Canada’s Capital where young people can express themselves through art. During the 2012 skating season, Eco Art will display the 40 works of art, in large scale format, to hundreds of thousands of skaters on the Rideau Canal Skateway, as well as to virtual visitors in an online gallery. A selection of the winning photos will also be featured in an outdoor exhibit during the Capital’s busy summer season.
Recognized by the Guinness World Records™ in 2005 as the world’s largest skating rink, the 7.8-kilometre Rideau Canal Skateway receives, on average, one million visits each year. The world-famous ice surface, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, becomes one of the official sites for Winterlude, which will take place from February 3 to 20, 2012.
