Proposals for Ottawa’s Rideau Canal Shorelines
The Rideau Canal Shorelines proposals are in and under review. The successful proposal(s) will be announced in late spring with the hope to see a project launched in summer 2012.
Goals for Rideau Canal Shoreline Projects
The NCC seeks to animate the shorelines of the Rideau Canal and enhance the experience Canadians have when visiting their capital. The Rideau Canal Shorelines Animation Request for Expression of Interest was undertaken this winter to achieve this.
For this pilot phase, we sought short term projects that could be quickly implemented for a maximum of 3 years. Any project would also need to protect the heritage character of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Review of Rideau Canal Pilot Project Proposals
The submission period ended on January 27, 2012, and led to a number of proposals. The NCC and Parks Canada are currently reviewing the proposals that meet the initiative’s key objectives.
Next Steps: Results and Launch
The NCC will announce the proposal(s) which will be further pursued and the proponent(s) in late spring 2012.
Proposals should be implemented as soon as possible. The hope is to see the project(s) launched in the summer of 2012.
Following the pilot project phase, they will be assessed in order to determine if they should be pursued in the future.
Stay tuned for an update in late spring!
