The “Renaissance de la Ferme Moore” will create an exceptional site for interaction between an urban setting and the rural world.

Following a Request for Proposal process, the National Capital Commission (NCC) announces that the project “La Renaissance de la Ferme-Moore” of La Coop Agrodor Thurso was selected and will work on the next steps towards the completion of a long-term lease for the use of Moore Farm Estate in Gatineau.

La Coop Agrodor plans to operate an educational farm that is accessible to the public. The project includes a vegetable farm and a social integration program for persons with intellectual disabilities. La Coop Agrodor also wants to develop educational components, site animation and themed activities throughout the year.

“La Coop Agrodor has demonstrated experience, competence, understanding of the issues and the financial viability of its offer”, said Roland Morin, Vice-president of Real Estate Management, Design and Construction at the NCC. “We are confident that The Coop Agrodor will make the site welcoming and accessible to the community.”

La Coop Agrodor is one of the pillars the agriculture industry in Canada’s Capital Region. It has extensive expertise in its field and the support of La Coop fédérée du Québec of which it is a full member.

We are grateful for the trust the NCC has put in us”, said Patrick Therrien, Executive Director of La Coop Agrodor. “Over time, the Moore Farm Estate will become a window of the region’s agricultural potential and capacity while maintaining its unique heritage features. Our goal is to make an exceptional site for interaction between the urban setting and the rural world.”

The Moore Farm Estate buildings date back to the 1910s. The stable and the riding arena are heritage buildings recognized by the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office (FHBRO). The Moore Farm Estate was donated to the Government of Canada in 1973 by Mrs. Virginia Parker Moore. The vision of the future development for this site reflects the wishes expressed by Mrs. Parker Moore that the bequeathed estate to Canadians be accessible to the public.
