Canada’s Capital Region includes Ottawa, Gatineau and 11 other municipalities in eastern Ontario and western Quebec. Three great rivers cut through a landscape of rolling hills and fields. A dramatic array of towered roofs at its centre marks the seat of Canadian government. Boats slip through the waters of the Rideau Canal, and scarlet-coated guards march toward Parliament Hill. This very modern and vibrant capital — a place where two distinct cultures live together — is also home to many national treasures. But its soul lies in the larger-than-life monuments, the great Canadian festivals, the natural surroundings, the heritage buildings and landscapes, the cosmopolitan culture, the sense of history. This is where you’ll discover what it means to be Canadian.

With so many things to do and places to visit our vast array of visitor services will help make the most of your stay.

A team of roving information officers equipped with electronic tablets bring information directly to you. From May to September, look for them along Confederation Boulevard and in high traffic areas in the downtown core.

To make sure you stay connected, the Capital Wi-Fi network provides Wi-Fi access free of charge in high traffic pedestrian areas in the heart of the capital region. The Network also features indoor Interactive Touch Screen units, which not only provide useful information but double up as free wireless Hotspots.

If you are into mobile apps, Capital Tours is a free GPS-enabled multi-media walking tour app of the Parliament Hill grounds and Confederation Boulevard.

Keep your smartphone and a pair of ear buds handy while you visit because you will come across Decoding Art QR-codes which are available at some of the most popular monuments and public art pieces. By simply scanning the QR code with your smartphone you will be able to hear stories of Balancing, the Canadian Firefighters Memorial, the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument, Papa and Tin House to name but a few.

You will find information and orientation tools (info map columns and map models) as well as various interpretation panels about key Capital sites, views and vistas installed along Confederation Boulevard.
